Caring for the Body, Mind, and Spirit
At St. Paul's Hospital of Iloilo (SPHI), healing extends beyond physical treatment. As a Catholic healthcare ministry of the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres, we believe that every person deserves compassionate, holistic care that nurtures not only the body but also the mind and spirit.
For over 115 years, the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres have faithfully carried forward Christ's healing mission by serving every patient with love, dignity, compassion, and respect. Guided by the Gospel and inspired by the charism of the Congregation, they continue to make God's loving presence felt through every act of care, bringing hope, comfort, and healing to those who are sick, vulnerable, and in need.
A Ministry of Faith and Healing
Since the hospital opened its doors in 1911, pastoral care has remained an essential part of SPHI's healing ministry. It reflects our commitment to providing total patient care—care that addresses the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of every individual.
Rooted in the teachings of Christ and the Catholic tradition, our pastoral ministry reminds us of St. Paul's message:
"If one member suffers, all suffer together."
— 1 Corinthians 12:26
This belief continues to guide SPHI in caring for the whole person with compassion and faith.
Walking with Patients and Families
SPHI's Pastoral Care Services provide spiritual guidance and compassionate support to patients and their families throughout their healthcare journey. Whether celebrating moments of hope or accompanying patients through illness and uncertainty, the pastoral team offers a comforting presence grounded in faith and prayer.
Our ministry includes:
· Spiritual counseling and emotional support
· Bedside visits and prayer
· Administration and coordination of the Sacraments with the hospital chaplain
· Holy Communion for Catholic patients
· Anointing of the Sick and Reconciliation
· Spiritual support for critically ill and dying patients
· Guidance for families during times of illness, grief, and loss
· Collaboration with parish priests and trained pastoral caregivers
Working alongside physicians, nurses, and healthcare professionals, our pastoral caregivers ensure that every patient receives compassionate, person-centered care that honors their dignity, faith, and values.
Compassion in Every Encounter
The Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres, together with our chaplain, trained pastoral caregivers, volunteers, and healthcare professionals, accompany patients from all walks of life—regardless of age, social status, or religious background. Every individual is treated with understanding, respect, and genuine compassion, recognizing that each person's spiritual journey is unique.
As Sister Marie Anne Deocampo, SPC, former Hospital Administrator and longtime head of Pastoral Care Services, beautifully expressed:
"The care in the spiritual realm makes us different from other hospitals. We have great faith in its efficacy."
These words continue to embody SPHI's commitment to healing through the integration of clinical excellence, compassionate service, and Christian faith.
A Healing Presence for Every Patient
At SPHI, healing is more than curing illness—it is restoring hope, strengthening faith, and accompanying every person with the loving presence of God. Through our Pastoral Care Services, we remain committed to our mission of delivering holistic, compassionate, and Christ-centered healthcare, ensuring that every patient experience not only excellent medical care but also comfort, peace, and spiritual healing.
